Help me, I need a theme for Christmas decorating ideas?

I'm done with the usual clic look of silver and gold that I've been using for the last years. I'm thinking about gothic style(black and white/red and golden) or retro 70's style(disco /retro stuff). Which one do you think is better? The focal point of it is the tree, from there on I will pick it up and decorate other things.
